Etta was the second child of James Elijah Chase and his wife, Elizabeth Ann Sprague. There is confusion over spelling of her middle name. Her name is spelled Elfretta and Alfretta. Etta married Joseph Washington Logan on February 16, 1876 on Logan Family farm north of Havelock (Pocahontas County), Iowa. They had six children; three sons and two daughters; plus a stillborn unnamed infant.
