George Cole was born at Northfield, Worcestershire, England and was the son of John Cole and Sarah Price. He emigrated to Utah in 1866. He was employed by the Salt Lake City Cemetery in 1878 and worked their for many years. He was retained because of his detailed knowledge of the cemetery. He kept a private record of all burials with the date and location of the graves which was valuable in the days before the cemetery had a sexton. At his death he was survived by his wife, Susie Sugden Cole; four sons, William Edward Cole, Raymond Cole, Marshall Laurence Cole, and Arthur Cole; and his daughter, Francis Elizabeth Cole Adams.
