Fredrick "Fred" Owen Driehs, age 80, of Clear Lake, Texas, went home to heaven on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

He was born April 11, 1931, in Beaumont, Texas, to Fredrick and Nevie Driehs.

He graduated from Beaumont High School in 1949, then joined the US Airforce. He served his country for four years, in Japan and France and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Fred married his life-long love, Mary Alice Davis on December 17, 1954.

Fred worked in oilfield equipment manufacturing and successfully ran a family accounting business with his wife in the Houston/ Clear Lake area for over 50 years. Fred was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where he volunteered for many years as an usher and a greeter. As a recovering alcoholic, he was passionate about helping others and spent many years serving in prison ministry, where he gave his testimony and led many prisoners to Christ.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Mary Alice Driehs; sons, Rick Driehs, Steve Driehs, and his wife, Debbie; daughters, Valerie Driehs, Tracy Driehs, and her husband, Mark Slator, and Suzy Wilson, and her husband Kyle; seven grandchildren; and six great-grand-children.

His final resting place will be the Houston National Cemetery on Veterans Memorial Drive.
