Wayne C. Schumacher, age 80, died at his home at Sunset Point
Resort in Cohasset, Minn., early Sunday morning, July 10, 2011.
Wayne was born in 1931 and baptized on Aug. 4, 1935. His parents
were Edward and Hilda Schumacher, and step-mother, Manilla. A
graduate of Grand Rapids High School, Wayne served in the United
States Army from 1952 to 1954 taking part in an atomic bomb test.

He married Katherine Jacobson on June 13, 1953 and together they
had three children, Dale, David and Gayle. After Katie's death
in 1980, Wayne married Dianna Werlinger on Oct. 24, 1981.
Wayne worked in the mines, Brier Clothing Store, as a meat cutter
at Miners Grocery Store, as an agent for Prudential Insurance
Company, and for 42 seasons, owned and operated Sunset Point Resort
on Bass Lake in Cohasset. He was a member of the Cohasset Fire
Department for 25 years, serving as Fire Chief for 10 years. An
avid fisherman and hunter, Wayne was a charter member and former
president of the Itasca Chapter of the MN Deer Hunters Association.
He loved playing baseball and softball, and for 10 years sponsored
and coached the Sunset Point women's softball team, which were
state champions in 1988. Wayne was a board member and past
president of Itasca County Hospice. An active participant in both
the Grand Rapids and Deer River Chambers of Commerce, as well as
the Itasca County Resort Association, Wayne went to sport shows on
behalf of Itasca County resorts for 30 years. He was a member of
Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Katherine; and
his brother, Donald (Sadie) Schumacher.

Survived by his wife, Dianna; two sons, Dale (Linda) Schumacher of
Remer, Minn., David (Delores) Schumacher of Cohasset, Minn.; one
daughter, Gayle (David) Anderson of Cohasset/Deerwood, Minn.; close
nephew, Lynn Schumacher; nine grandchildren, Leann Wells, Eric,
Aaron and Matthew Peterson, Chad and Becky Schumacher, Amy
Bonestell, Jacob and Katherine Anderson; 10 great-grandchildren;
siblings, Vivian Werner of Riverside, Calif., Clifford Schumacher
of Clayton, N.C., Lawerence (Thelma) Schumacher of Fort Atkinson,
Wis., Evelyn Steinhart of Laurel, Mont., Audrey (Courtney) Moe of
Desert Hot Springs, Calif., Delayne (Paul) Tinquist of Coon Rapids,
Minn. and Darlene (Clement) O'Brien of Lake George, Colo.; many
well-loved nieces, nephews and in-laws from both his marriages.

Service: Visitation will be Friday, July 15, 2011 from 4 until 7
p.m. at the Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, Minn., and will
continue on Saturday, July 16 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church
from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service of worship. Rev. Lynn
Ronsberg will officiate.

Memorials appreciated to Zion Lutheran Church and the Itasca
Hospice Foundation.
