The family was living in nearby Mt. Chase in the 1870 Census. Frederick was 8, his father was a farmer. Also in the household was his mother Louisa and sisters "domestic" Emily, Frances, and Martha. They continued to live there in 1880, Fred, Frances and Martha being the children still at home.
In November of 1888, Fred married Mrs. Maria Norwood (nee Rose) in Eastport, which is where they raised their large family. Many extended family members were welcome to stay at their large home on County Road in the early 20th century.
Fred worked many jobs to sustain his family over the years - farmer, Ice company, factory operative, and salesman for the Union Tea Company day laborer, and road construction.
