George Hassler (Hossler) the fourth son of Michael and Margreta Korman Hassler was a weaver and soldier in the Revolutionary War. Beginning in August 1781 he purchased four acres from his brother. In 1789 he purchased 222 acres of government land and 128 acres from the Manor os Springestbury.

He sold this land in 1790. In 1792 he bought 15 acres and 106 purchase from Luke Brinkerof in Straban Twp. York Co. PA. In 1794 he bought 185 acres and 106 perches from Peter Kurtz. George's land was four miles east of Gettysburg. During the Civil War (1861-1865) a part of the Battle of Gettysburg (July 10, 1863) was fought on George's farm and is now included in the historic battlefield records.

George Hassler served in the Revolution. He is listed in Capt.
George Gieselman's Company in the 7th Battalion of York Co. Militia
for the years 1780 and 1782. See page 54.

The will of George Hassler was probated in Gettysburg May 29,
1837. In it he mentions his wife Elizabeth and his children: John, Fred-
erick, George, Henry, Jacob, Christian, Elizabeth, Lydia (probably a
granddaughter), and the children of "my deceased son Daniel, viz.
George Washington, Jacob, Elizabeth, Jeremiah and Daniel Franklin."

Of the above-mentioned sons John moved to New York State and
later to Michigan; George died in York Co., three of his sons moved to
Michigan; Frederick went to Stark Co. Ohio; Henry and Jacob remained
in Adams Co. Pa.; Christian moved to Libertytown, Maryland. The
"deceased son Daniel" died in 1829 when on the way to Ohio. His
family . settled in Columbiana Co. Ohio, some of them moved later to
Kosciusco Co. Indiana and some to Michigan.

It is thought the sons Joseph and Michael died before 1837 without
issue, as they are not mentioned in the will.
