She was a resident of Davis, California, for 55 years and a native of West Virginia. Born on her parents' farm newar Kline, West Virginia, she was the daughter of George and Ola Alexander. She was the sixth child in a family of twelve and was schooled in a one room schoolhouse along with some of her siblings. She was the first of her family to overcome the long distance to school and graduate from high school in Franklin, West Virginia.
While working in Washington DC, she met Alton Hatton. Shortly after, he was drafted by the US Army. They married in Columbia, South Carolina, on January 31, 1942. Nine months later he left for Europe and served three years away from his new bride during World War II. During that time, she, along with her two sisters, worked building Avenger aircraft in Baltimore, Maryland. After the war, they settled in California - first in Lodi, then Sonora, and finally in Davis. The family enjoyed camping, fishing, and travelling. They travelled over 100,000 miles by RV, visiting all 48 of the continental United States and Alaska.
Survived by a son: Ronald (Susan) Hattan; a daughter: Darlene Evonne (Jorge) Loyola; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and seven of her siblings.
