Edna Clingman was a daughter of Francis B. Ward and Lydia Matilda Bowden. She married Richard Puryear Clingman in 1887. They had five children, John Burton Clingman, Gray Clingman (an infant buried with Edna and Richard), Anne Clingman, James Wilson Clingman and Thomas F. Clingman. After Edna died in 1907, Richard remarried Vetra Bennett Brock. They had two daughters. Interestingly, they named their first daughter together "Edna"; the second daughter was Patillo B., known as "Pattie."
