Newspaper Article [unknown publisher]: "Lewis Levi Newkirk Died Last Week at his home in Mauston on Wednesday, Feb 10, 1932, at the age of 63 years, 2 months and 29 days. The deceased had been in failing health for the past two years, his condition gradually growing worse until he passed away. Mr. Newkirk was the oldest son of Levi and Elizabeth Utter Newkirk. He was born on a farm in Lemonweir, Nov. 12, 1868, where he grew to manhood. On March 13, 1892, he was united in marriage to Lillian George, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel George of Summit. Ten children were born to this union. After their marriage they moved onto the Rogers farm in Lindina where they lived for five years, when they purchased a farm in Summit in 1897. He was one of the most prosperous farmers in his community and enjoyed the high esteem of the neighborhood. His wife died Oct. 3, 1919. He then sold his farm and moved to Mauston where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Alvira Farrell of Elroy on Dec. 2, 1924. He is survived by his wife and nine children: Lula (Mrs. Ed Wells), Jessie (Mrs. Leo Fitzpatrick), Myrtle (Mrs. Dennis Fitzpatrick), Gertrude, Harold, Kenneth, Orville, Leslie and Leo. One son, Merril, preceded him in death. Three brothers and three sisters also survive him: Melvin and Bert of Mauston, Willis of New Lisbon, Mrs. Maude Mooney of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. Pearl Hill of St. Paul, Minn. Funeral services were held from the Odd Fellow hall Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. Alfred B. Nimz officiating. Burial was in the Rock Valley cemetery in Lindina."
