Mike was the younger son of Sarah Ellis "Sally" Floyd and Floyd William Herring. He succumbed to gunshot wounds, just one month before his 26th birthday. He was predeceased by his loving mother. He was survived by his father and by his only sibling, Floyd William "Sonny" Herring and by his children: Kathleen Ann Estes, Mechelle Marcia Herring, Wade Allen Anderson, and Romulus Christopher Herring (adoptive name Christopher Lewis Gaines). He was also survived by his brother's children; Robert Darrick Herring, Sharon Rae Herring, and Tracy Lee Herring.
