Victor Stark, Head of Police Detectives

Amsterdam - Victor C. Stark, of 33 Van Dyke Ave. died yesterday after he was stricken at his camp at Sacandaga Lake. Born in Amsterdam, he was a lifelong area resident. He married Rose Genero in 1941. Mr. Stark was the chief of detectives for the Amsterdam Police Department, serving for 34 years. A member of St. Michaels Church, he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council No. 209, the Monsignor William A. Brown Fourth Degree Assembly. he was a past exalted ruler of the Amsterdam Elks Lodge and was elected Elk of the Year in 1984-85. Mr. Stark was a member of the Sacandaga Power Squadron, a past commodore of the Mayfield Yacht Club, and the financial officer of the Sacandaga Boat Club. he also belonged to the Polish American Veterans, the James T. Bergen American Legion Post, and the former Hurricana Club. He was a chief petty officer of the Navy during World War II. he is survived by his wife, Rose Genero Stark; a brother, Charles Stark of Schenectady; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Murdoch of Amsterdam and Mrs. Helen Paige of Perth. Funeral services will be announced. Arrangements were made by the Boice Funeral Home, 124 Guy Park Avenue. (The Daily Gazette, Schenectady, NY - Mon Aug 06, 1984)


Rose was Vic's second wife. His first wife was Clara Porath. Not mentioned in his obituary are his son, Victor, who pre-deceased him, and a daughter Jean Stark Bates. Vic Jr. had three children and Jean had a daughter, all who survived Vic Sr.
