In January 1949, Nelson Timlake sold the State Line Club, located on Hwy 45 (today, Hwy 145) at the Mississippi-Tennessee state line to Jack and Louise Hathcock. Jack owned several clubs from then, the most notorious being, The Shamrock Motel and Restaurant. After he and Louise divorced in 1957, he built The White Iris Restaurant and Cocktail lounge in about 1960 which was located north of The Shamrock Motel about 200 yards and on the opposite side of Hwy 45. Jack had leased the Shamrock Motel and Restaurant to Louise after their divorce. Jack was shot and murdered by Louise at the Shamrock Motel in room #1 (Louise's personal room) on May 22, 1964. She had sent word for Jack to come to the Shamrock to discuss something, and once he was there, she claimed he attacked her and tried to rape her. She shot him three times and he staggered out of her room and across the open driveway, then fell, at the Mississippi and Tennessee state line. Many think the shooter actually was Carl Douglas "Towhead" White, as he was Louise's lover at that time. She took credit for the shooting, however, and was not charged.
