Ralph LeRoy Baumgardner, 22, Westminster R.D. 1, died
Saturday, July 11, 1964, at the
Carroll County General Hospital. Westminster, two hours
after his car crossed the center line and hit a tractor-trailer on
Route 140 near Silver Run.
Police said the Baumgardner car, traveling south on Route
110, continued for another 280 feet, turning over several times
and throwing Baumgardner out of the car.
Baumgardner suffered a fractured skull, a broken leg, and multiple cuts and
abrasions.
Police did not identify the truck driver. They said the Baumgardner car was demolished.
A son of Dale and Mary Bowers Baumgardner, Harney, Mr.
Baumgardner was a painter. He was a member of Piney Creek
Church of the Brethren, near Taneytown.
Surviving are his parents; his widow , Margaret C. Blank
Baumgardner; a daughter, Vickie Lee, at home; two brothers
and two sisters, Richard, Manchester; David, Genevieve and
Louise, all of Harney; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs.
Birnie Bowers, Littlestown R.D.
The Rev. Warren M. Eshbach, his pastor, conducted funeral
services Monday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at the Little funeral home,
Littlestown. Burial was in Piney Creek Cemetery.

FATALLY HURT IN ACCIDENT
Funeral services for Ralph LeRoy Baumgardner, 22, Westminster R. 1, son of Dale and Mary Bowers Baumgardner, Harney, who was fatally injured in an automobile accident near Silver Run Saturday morning were held today from Little's Funeral home, Littlestown. Rev. Warren M. Eshbach, pastor of the Piney Creek Church of the Brethren, near Taneytown, officiated.
Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Pallbearers were Calvin Blank, Robert Blank, Arlo Stull and Nevaeh Ecker.
Baumgardner was driving on Route 140 when his car crossed the center line and hit a tractor-trailer....He died in the Carroll County General Hospital two hours after the accident which occurred at 12:40 a.m.
Among his survivors is his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Birnie Bowers, Littlestown.
