He is buried on private property on Canoe Creek west of Ashville, AL. The information that I got said that he fell into the water near the bank and landed on a sharp cane. He sent his daughter to get his wife which was at home in Henry County, GA. When his wife had arrived at the site she wsa met by the Indians and they told her that he had died. He had started to smell and the Indian's buried him on the site. The reason that he was there is that James and his daughter was on a fishing trip.According to "First Families of Henry County, Georgia," James Monroe Lovvorn and his wife, Hannah Smith Lovvorn, were living in Georgia when he purchased an estate in St. Clair County, Alabama, in 1824. The story is told that while fishing on Canoe Creek during a visit there in 1825, he died when he fell on a sharp cane and was buried by Indians about six miles west of Ashville.
