In all Mr. Temple's profession his devoted wife was a true helpmate and with her husband shared the esteem and confidence of all who knew them.
This happy union was blessed with eleven children, all but two of them are living and grown to womanhood. The eldest son, Samuel died at the age of 13 years and a daughter Sarah Alico at the age of 12 months. The following sons and daughters survive, Lena, wife of Charles A. Neff of Washington, D.C.; Esther, wife of Norman M. Clemens of Huntingdon, Thomas Henry Temple, a Private in the U.S. Standing Army now located at Fort DeRussey, Honolulu, Hawaii, Robert Bruce Temple, in the mercantile business in Philipsburg, Penn., and Mary Jane, Frances Willard, Bertha Ellinore, Harriett D. and Philip Devges Temple, all at home.
Mrs. Temple was a member of Christ's Reformed Church of Alexandria since eleven years of age and continued faithful in all it's services until her marriage, when she with her husband united with the Presbyterian Church of Petersburg which continued her active work for the master, in the Sunday School and Church and Missonary circles. Always her strong faith and fortitude and patience bore unfaltering testimony to all around her of the strength and never failing support of those "Everlasting Arms" in which she implicitly trusted. Willing to live for the sake of her husband and children she yet expressed her readiness to answer the summons to be with Christ, which is for better, and on January 1st, New Year's Day at 11:20 P.M., she calmly fell asleep on earth to awaken in mansions above. "In Thy presence is fullness of Joy: At His right hand there are pleasures forevermore."
Mrs. Temple had not been in good health for sometime but never complained of her conditions and was only in bed from Sauurday morning Dec. 31. Her physician was summoned and diagnosed her illness as diabetes and serious complications. Everything was done that earthly power could do but to no avail. Late Saturday night she bid her husband and children goodbye, then lapsed into a diabetic coma and life gradually ebbed away.
Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Conducted by her pastor Rev. Charles L. Stong of the Lutheran Church and Rev. John M. Stevens of the Methodist Church with interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
