Small Pox
Since the last issue of this paper one new case of small pox has developed in Perry, and one death has occurred.
On last Saturday morning it was authoritatively announced that Lula Davis, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Davis, had small-pox. The premises and family of Mr. Davis have been strictly quarantined. This case is traced directly to association with Florence Thornton, who was the second to contract the disease.

The article goes on to name the others who died or have contracted the disease and information from Dr. J.B. Smith who was treating all the cases. Also it was noted that nearly every person in town has been vaccinated that that those who had not been should take precaution at once.

In the 1880 Federal Census for Houston Co., GA Lula appears in the H/H of her parents, age 5, born in GA in the Lower Town District.

Death
On last Saturday morning Lula Buford, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Davis, died at the residence of her parents in Perry, she having suffered for two weeks from small-pox. Lula was about eight years old, a very bright and attractive [?difficult to read] child, the idol of her parents' hearts, and the joy of the household.
The bright eyes are closed in death, the darling voice is hushed, the loving caresses of the sweet child will no more be felt, and the grave holds the form of the precious child, though another angel voice has been added to the chorus of Heavenly music. God has taken his own.
We know from experience that the happy home is rendered desolute [sic], and that an aching void has been created in the parents' hearts. That human words cannot console the bereaved parents in their affliction, we fully know, yet knowing, we tender our heartfelt sympathy.
Lula is now with her Heavenly Father, an angel link connecting her loved ones here with the blissful Hereafter.

Born ca 1875.
