Crimona -- Melvin Manas Marshall, 78, of Rt. 1, Crimora died Monday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Marshall had been ill two months and was admitted to the hospital Sunday night.

He was born April 24, 1903 in Albemarle County and was a son of the late Robert and Lucy Via Marshall.

Mr. Marshall worked for the former National Fruit Co. of Waynesboro some 20 years and was a farmer before retiring. He was a member of the Harriston United Methodist Church, but had been attending the Wayside Baptist Church.

Mr. Marshall had lived in Crimora since age 11 and had been living with his daughter, Vera M. Bowman of McGaheysville, since his illness.

On August 23, 1923, he married the former Mae E. Sampson, who survives.

Also suriving are three duaghters, Vera M. Bowman of McGaheysville, Ruby M. Crawford of Crimora and Roxie Wine of Waynesboro; four sons, Elick R. Marshall of Waynesboro, Frank R. and Boyd H. Marshall, both of Crimora and Allen E. Marshall of Grottoes; a sister Amanda Sandridge of Grottoes; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wayside Baptist Church by the Rev. James A. Floyd and the Rev. C. E. Matheny. Burial will be in East Law Memorial Gardens.

The body is at the Lindsey Weyers Cave Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. today.

Friends also may call at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Vera and William Bowman of McGaheysville, where Mrs. Marshall will be staying until after the funeral.
