Former Bardstown resident, Mrs. Cecilia Joan Flahiff, age 79, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Sunrise Manor in Hodgenville. She was born on November 24, 1934 in Nelson County, a former employee at Bardstown Board of Education working in the cafeteria and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Desmond Flahiff, her parents, Joseph Martin and Mary Louise Spalding Murphy, and two sisters, Carolyn Mudd and Bertha Taylor. She is survived by her daughters, Desi (Joseph Nally) Kays of Bardstown, Angela (Allen Thornsberry) Hardin of Culvertown, her son Martin (Jeannie) Flahiff of Bardstown, her half brother, Joseph Wayne Yates of Bardstown, 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, July 23, 2014, 10:00AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Reverend Matthew Hardesty will be celebrant. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:00-8:00pm with 7:00pm prayers and after 8:30am Wednesday at Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy were requested to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Houghlin-Greenwell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
