Born in Halifax N.C. she was the daughter of the late James Thomas Varker and Marshanna Moseley Varker. She was married to the late James Carlton Jordan. She received a BS Degree from Newberry College class of 1941, a Master's Degree in 1948 from the University of South Carolina and retired in 1976 after having taught for 34 years. In 1966 she organized the Barnwell Business College where she also taught for 3 years. She was a member of the Ackerman Chapter Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron in 1961, during her tenure as Worthy Matron she instituted the Order of Rainbow Girls and served as mother adviser. In 1975 she organized the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for Barnwell County, served as shelter manager and volunteer Animal Welfare Service for Williston and Barnwell County until 1986. She was chosen by Town of Williston to serve as Grand Marshal for the Wonderful Williston Weekend in 1988. She was a member of the Williston United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the church choir for 54 years.
Survivors include her son, James Burns (Kay) Jordan Sr.; two grandchildren, James Burns (Lisa) Jordan, Jr. and Sarah Ashley Jordan. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Johnny, Willie, Murray and Tommy Varker.
