Herald Journal, The (Logan, UT) - September 12, 2002
Deceased Name: Theron Mair Baird
September 6, 2002, a kind, gentle soul passed from our sight but not from our hearts. Born in Great Falls, Mont., on April 7, 1944, Theron Mair Baird brought much joy to his parents Glenn T. and Evelyn Mair Baird. Most of his school years were spent in Logan and he graduated from Utah State University. He served for 2 1/2 years on an LDS mission to Switzerland. He married Jennifer Larsen in the Logan LDS Temple on Sept. 18, 1968, and they are the parents of four children. Angela was born in Logan about two weeks after her daddy graduated from USU and was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Army. Amelia was born in Heidelberg, Germany, while he was stationed there. Christopher was born in El Paso, Texas, which was also a military assignment. Susanna was born in Orem, Utah, where his family has lived for the past 26 years. He has managed and owned Hallmark stores in Orem, Sandy, Ogden and Provo. He wanted to personally be able to thank all his employees and customers over the years.
Theron enjoyed playing sports, basketball, baseball, and golf. As his cancer weakened him, he really missed associating with friends and pleasant evenings playing golf at Riverside Country Club. Service was a focal point of his life whether it was as a husband, father, home teacher, bishop, neighbor, or stranger. He loved to work hard and loved to help others. It is so like Theron to go and prepare a place for us.
Theron is survived by his wife, children, Angela (Bryan) Wood, Amelia (Lane) Critchfield, Christopher (Brandi) Baird, Susanna (Wen) Nyman; grandchildren, Cassidy, Melissa, Ethan, Alison, Curtis, Andrew, and Journey; his parents Glenn and Evelyn Baird; brother Dennis (Pam) Baird, sisters Sharell (Richard) Eames, Charlene (Mark) Austin, Janet (Michael) Smith; in-laws, Roy and Dora Larsen, Gary and Kathy Larsen, Craig and Gail Larsen, Steve Larsen, Suzanne and Monte Buttars, Paul and Kandi Larsen, Doug and Lisa Larsen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Eric Zachary Wood, a precious grandson in May 2002; and sister-in-law, Liz Larsen. Ê
The family wishes to express appreciation to the many friends and relatives who have visited and sent cards and made phone calls, brought goodies and flowers and included us in their fasting and prayers. We have felt surrounded by your love and concern. Many thanks to the wonderful doctors over the past seven years, Dr. Robert Stevenson, Dr. Brian Tudor, and Dr. Jay Clark and their kind and compassionate staffs and hospice nurse Nancy Trapnell. Ê
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the Sunset Heights Stake Center, 1260 S. 400 West in Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State St. in Orem, Utah, and also Friday prior to the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery. "We cared enough and sent the very best."
