Lyle R. Armstrong, 103, of El Paso, passed away at 10:35 pm on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Heritage Health in El Paso.

He was born January 3, 1908 at home in El Paso, IL, a son of Charles and Martha Sutton Armstrong. He married Helen Kelly on June 11, 1927. She passed away on July 9, 1977. He later married LaVerle Sharp on June 3, 1978. She passed away on May 13, 1992.

Survivors include his children, Ann (Opie) Hocker of El Paso; Charles (Georgia) Armstrong of Galesburg; John (Donna) Armstrong of Bloomington; one daughter-in-law, Florence Armstrong of El Paso; one step-daughter, Elaine (Charles) Long of Galesburg; twenty-two grandchildren; two step grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; and ten great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two children, Rosemary Hayes Hany and William Armstrong; two grandsons, Timothy Hayes and David Armstrong; one great granddaughter, Sophie; three brothers; and three sisters.

Lyle farmed for over 55 years and worked for Bud Volz for a decade during that time until his retirement in 1976.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Farm Bureau.

Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in El Paso
