J. Van Thorne, 79, of Arthur, died Wednesday, March 21,1979 in Grant Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Jacob and Hannah (Watchford) Thorne.
He is survived by his widow, Beulah (Yokum) Thorne, five sons, Odell Thorne, Arlington, VA.; Chester Thorne, Petersburg; Virgil Thorne, Manassas, Va.; Marvin Thorne, Arthur; and Gerald Thorne, Chambersburg, Pa.; six daughters, Mrs. Thelma Depretis, Hazelton, Pa.; Mrs. Nela Griffin and Mrs. Evelyn Schaeffer, both of Vienna, Va.; Mrs. Lois Swick, Keyser; Mrs. Irene Druyff, Manassas; Mrs. Darlene Champ, Arthur; two sisters, Mrs Vernie Vance and Mrs. Elizabeth Mauzy, both of Petersburg; three brothers, Earl Thorne and Glenn Thorne, both of Petersburg; Harvey Thorne, Gettysburg, Pa.; 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Brick Church of the Brethren with the Rev. James Heckman and the Rev. Carl Mauzy officiating. Interment was in the Lahmansville Cemetery.
