Jacob Hiram Whetzel son of Jacob Wetzel/Whetzel and Rhuhama Shepard is the grandson of Rev. War Capt, John Wetzel Sr. and Mary Barbara Bonnett who settled on Big Wheeling Creek, Marshall Co., WV at a time when traveling passed Fort Port was considered going into the wilderness. Jacob Hiram's Father is of the Whetzel Trace Fame of Waverly, Indiana. Jacob's Family with Uncles like Lewis Ludwig Whetzel and Martin Whetzel who could load their weapons while running. A Grandfather who was ambushed by Indians at Baker Station and a father Jacob who helped carve out the first east - west Road into Central Indiana.
