Andrew's mother died of cholera on board the canal boat which was taking them to Ottawa, Illinois (Fox River Settlement) where Andrew, his widowed father and brother subsequently settled. They remained in Illinois about a year before moving to Texas at the urging of Kleng Peerson. The party initally settled in Dallas County, but a few years later they purchased land in Bosque County and moved there.
Andrew married Andrea Pierson in 1869 in Bosque County, Texas. They were the parents of six children. After she died in 1886, Andrew married Marthea Johansdtr in 1893. They were the parents of one son Willie. Andrew moved to New Mexico between 1900 and 1910, where he died in 1914.
