Born April 21, 1913, at Landes, she was the daughter of the late Wade Hamilton Kesner and Anna Florence (Whetzel) Kesner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Emory Layton, March 29, 1990.
He is survived by two sons, Paul J. Layton of Goldsboro, N.C., and Emory J. Layton of Springfield, Va.; one daughter, Georgia L. Mahmoud of Alexandria, Va.; one brother, Raymond Kesner of Dorcas; two stepsons, Vernon Layton of Petersburg and Stanley Layton of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Burrell Hiser of Baltimore and Eleanor Hinkle of Petersburg; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Feb. 20, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with interment in Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.
