Lamar County Echo 6 Oct 1988: 'BETTY CROSS ABBETT - Betty Cross Abbett of Garland died Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Garland Memorial Hospital. Services were held Saturday, Oct. 1, at the First United Methodist church of Garland with the Rev. Tom Peel and the Rev. Buist Wilson officiating. Graveside services and burial were held Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery with Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Abbett was born June 16, 1925 in Paris, a daughter of J. M. (Mutt) and Monta Lee Webb Cross. She attended Paris Schools, was a 1945 graduate of North Texas State University. She had lived in Garland for 30 years and taught English in Garland Schools from 1958 until retiring in 1983. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garland. Surviving are her husband, Luke; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Marilu Abbett of Garland; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Mike Turrentine of Silsbee; and two grandchildren, Heather and Luke Abbett of Garland.
