Janiece Howry King
ELGIN -- Funeral for Janiece Howry King, 79, Elgin, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elgin First Baptist Church with the Rev. Kris Lamle, pastor, officiating.

Mrs. King died Thursday, March 27, 2008, at her home.

Burial will be at Elgin Cemetery under direction of Elgin Funeral Home.

She was born April 19, 1928, in Acme, to Clarence M. "Buddy" and Frieda Pendley Howry. She grew up east of Sterling in the home of her grandparents, Hiram and Maggie Prater Pendley. She attended Richland School and Rush Springs High School. She married Earnest King Jr. of Sterling, on June 10, 1944. They lived all of their married life in the Sterling-Elgin community. She was a homemaker and a farm wife. She had been a member of First Baptist Church, Elgin, since January 1954. During more than 50 years, she served as Sunday school teacher, Training Union leader, youth sponsor, Bible school teacher, coordinator/director of the nursery, and church hostess. She was a member of Locust Grove Willing Workers' Home Demonstration Club, Mistletoe Neighborly Club, and Comanche County Farm Bureau Women's Committee.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law: Lana and Ray Wyatt, and Luena King, all of Elgin; and Deborah and Doug Morgan, Blanchard; a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Lori King, Sterling; nine grandchildren and their spouses: Amy, Joshua and Jerrod Halbrooks, all of Elgin; Amanda and Jeff Teague, Southlake, Texas; Travis and Jennifer Wyatt, Oklahoma City; Katy Jump and Ryan Butts, Edmond; Cody Jump, Casselberry, Fla.; and Justin and Ethan King, both of Sterling; seven great-grandchildren: Megan, Raylee and Keaton Halbrooks and Dillan McDonald, all of Elgin; Riley and Reagan Teague, Southlake, Texas; and Carigan Wyatt, Oklahoma City; a great-great-grandson, Skyler Halbrooks, Elgin; a sister, Linda Headley, Dacula, Ga.; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Dennis and Mary Howry, Rowlette, Texas; and David and Kim Howry, Tyler, Texas; and her caregiver, Susie Jay, Sterling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Earnest Wayne King.
