Christopher Schenk, a pioneer citizen of Black Hawk county, died at his home, 327 First street east at 4:15 p.m. yesterday. He had been ill since Saturday when he was stricken with paralyis which developed into pnemonia.

Decedent was born May 25, 1830, in Sonbelsingen, Germany. He came to America in 1853, settling near Albany, N.Y. He was married in 1856 to Mary B. Besh. Mrs. Schenk died in 1904. In 1865 he came to Iowa, living first at Burlington and them coming to Black Hawk county. He resided on a farm in Bennington township until 1893 when he retired and moved to Waterloo. In his younger days, he worked at his trade, that of an architect. He was the father of nine children, four of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Sarah Wallace, residing on Logan avenue; Mrs. Anna Funk, Burlington; Mrs. Eliza Herman, Independence avenue; and Amelia Schenk, at home. There are also nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, surviving. Also four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be at the home at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. DeWitie Clinton, Iowa Falls, will be in charge. Burial will be in Fairview.
