Mildred Stapleton Bullett died peacefully following a brief illness on Monday, October 10, 2011, at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 88 years old.

Born on May 26, 1923 in Gainesville, Florida, she was the daughter of Brian Osmond Stapleton and Evelyn May Story Stapleton. She moved to Maine in the 1960s and lived there with her husband, Carlton, for several years before returning to Gainesville. She worked for the federal government, including the Social Security Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture. For many years she was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where she volunteered in the nursery.

She loved being with friends and family. She was an interesting woman who shared wonderful stories about her childhood and later experiences. Her amazingly sharp memory and unique sense of humor never diminished. Independent and self-reliant, she lived on her own in her home following the death of her husband more than three decades ago until moving to The Village in 2009.

She is survived by her sister, Marion Stapleton Wilson (Denton) of Cedar Key, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bryan Osmond Stapleton.

Funeral services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 14 at 11:00 AM. The family will have a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in her name to Grace Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choice.
