WEST CHAZY — Robert J. "Bob" Tyrell, 74, of the Seymour Road, West Chazy, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with his family by his side.

He was born in Plattsburgh on June 13, 1937, the son of James W. and Marion (Farber) Tyrell.

Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Clinton Correctional Facility as a Sergeant in 1985 after 25 years of service. He also retired in 1997 after 21 years as a rural mail carrier. Robert enjoyed woodworking and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet (Baker) Tyrell, whom he married Sept. 19, 1959, at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Kim Tyrell of West Chazy, Jeffrey Tyrell and companion Tina Bates of Beekmantown; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Kathleen Mauer of Elizabeth, N.J., Cynthia and Russell Reed of Florida, Pamela and Shane Brink of Champlain, Tricia and Stephen Harris of Altona; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Paul and Rochelle Tyrell, Dennis and Kate Tyrell, William Tyrell, all of Schenectady, N.Y., Richard and Bethany Tyrell of Johnson City, N.Y.; a half sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Andrew Powell of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Marion Tyrell; a son, Timothy James Tyrell; and a brother, James Tyrell.

Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh.

A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William G. Reamer officiating. Interment will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Ingraham cemetery.
