Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011, at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Vicki Hultine officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at the church. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Norma Louise was born November 25, 1923, to Ervin and Zelma (Benz) Wick in Mapleton. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. In 1942, Norma graduated from Mapleton High School. She worked at the Letham D. Smith Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, WI, as a welder during World War II. Later, she attended beauty school and worked in Mapleton and her own shop in Minnesota Lake. On January 29, 1947, Norma was united in marriage to Robert A. Mensing at St. John's Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three sons. She continued hairdressing before joining her husband at Mensing Garage and Allis-Chalmers Implement Dealership for over 25 years. Norma was also a museum assistant at the Kremer House Library and the soloist at St. John's Lutheran Church for many years.
Norma is survived by her two sons: Charles (Lola) Mensing and David (Gloria "Gina") Mensing; six grandchildren: Jill (Scott) Kelly, Rebecca (Chad) Steinlage, Colleen (Andrew) Pond, Jonathan Mensing, Melissa (Matt) Berg and Katherine Mensing; five great-grandchildren: Abigail and Sophia Kelly, Joselyn and Griffin Pond and Ethan Berg; brother-in-law, Bill (Mary) Mensing; and sister-in-law, Ethel Wick.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William "Billy"; husband; and son, Robert "Bobby".
