John Thomas Kerr, a man who stood high in the esteem and confidence of his fellow men wherever known, passed to the world beyond from his home in Rimersburg, Pa., Monday, September 9, 1907, the cause of his death being a stroke of apoplexy.
Capt. Kerr, as he was familiarly known from the faithful service he gave his country from April 5, 1862 to July 4, 1864 as Captain of Co E., 62d Regt. Pa. Vol. Inf. during the Civil War, was the son of John and Nancy (Watson) Kerr.
He was born April 9, 1830 in Toby township, near Rimersburg, and lived all his life in and near the last named place. He was married in February 1851 to Catharine Feely.
Two of their children died in infancy, and his wife is also dead, but he is survived by the following children: lW. Kerr, druggist, Rimersburg; Mrs. Anna M. Davis, Clarion; Edward F. Kerr, Toby township, and Mrs. Lou Summerville, wife of Dr. H.B. Summerville, of Rimersburg.
The deceased was a member of the M.E. church for many years and was a man of most noble Christian character as was demonstrated through a long and honorable life.
The funeral took place Tuesday, Sept. 11 from his late home, Rev. A.P. Bittinger conducting the services, and the interment was made in the Rimersburg cemetery.
The bereaved family and friends have the sympathy of the entire community.
