The Emanuel County native lived in Bulloch County most of his life and was employed with International Knife and Saw Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had received the Purple Heart in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Willette B. Thigpen, Statesboro; a son, Adam Thigpen, Statesboro; a daughter, Tammy Coleman, Statesboro; his mother, Lois Fernandes, Statesboro; three brothers, Lamar Thigpen, Register, and Craig and Steve Thigpen, both of Brooklet; and a sister, Sue Baker, Brooklet.
The funeral, with full military honors, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Hodges-Turner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
