ARCADIA, LA - Funeral services for Floyd Edwards "Bubba" Van Hook will be held at 10:30am Thursday, October 13, 2011 at First Baptist Church in Arcadia, Louisiana, with Rev. Jeff Hoffman and Dr. George Steere officiating the service. Interment to follow at Driskill Cemetery, Highway 507 south of Arcadia under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston, LA. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, October 12 from 5 to 7:00pm at the Van Hook home, 2836 Myrtle Street, Arcadia.

Bubba was born November 1, 1927 in Shreveport and passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family on October 9 at home in Arcadia after a lengthy battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. He was preceded in death by his parents McGuire Gerald Van Hook and Effie Floy Edwards Van Hook, brother Gerald Van Hook, brother-in-law and good friend Tommy Mounger, and nephew Matthew Mounger. He grew up in Ruston and graduated from Ruston High School in 1944. Bubba enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until the end of World War II. He received his degree in Business from Louisiana Tech University in 1949.

He had a long and distinguished career with Hughes Tool Company. He worked in north and south Louisiana before moving to Oklahoma City as a Regional Manager. In 1980, he was transferred to Houston where he served as Manager of Executive Sales until his retirement in 1983, after 31 years of service. After moving back to Arcadia, he owned and operated Continental Supply Company for many years.

Bubba loved his Lord and his Church. He was ordained as a deacon at Nichols Hills Baptist Church, Oklahoma City. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Arcadia, serving on various committees.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed telling a good story and spending time in the country with family and friends. Bubba received multiple honors and awards during his lifetime, but his greatest honors were his roles as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Peggy Crawley Van Hook; sons Michael Van Hook, and wife Lisa of Houston, Texas, Alan Van Hook and wife Allison of Fort Smith, Arkansas; grandchildren Brian Van Hook and wife Liliana of Alexandria, Virginia, Chris Van Hook of Redwood City, California, James Van Hook and wife Kady of Houston, Texas, and Andrew Van Hook and wife Mary Katherine of Waco, Texas; great grandchild Dylan Van Hook of Alexandria, Virginia. Bubba is also survived by his sister Evelyn Van Hook James and husband Billy of Ruston, Louisiana; a special sister-in-law Dorothy Crawley Mounger of Arcadia; Mary Nell Anders and husband Pete of Shreveport; brother-in-law Otis "Skip" Crawley of Arcadia; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be: grandsons Chris Van Hook, Brian Van Hook, James Van Hook, and Andy Van Hook; nephews Steve Van Hook, Billy James, David James, Mark James, Bob James, and Jeff James.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Christus Schumpert Cancer Center, Dr. Chris Snead, Kate Young, RNNP and to Dr. Richard Haynie of Shreveport Internal Medicine.
