H. Jacob Klerner, one of the best known citizens of New Albany, died of apoplexy at his home, 620 East Fourth street. Mr. Klerner was born in Germany August 5, 1848 and came to this country with his parents at the age of seven years. He leaves nine children, viz., Arthur, Benjamin, Herman, Lulu, Emma, Tillie, Hattie, Bertha and Barbara Klerner. His father, Henry Klerner; brother, Peter, and sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Blunk, of Lanesville, also survive him. Mr. Klerner engaged in the furniture business on a small scale on East Eighth street years ago. His business increased and his father and brother were taken into partnership with him and by close attention to the industry, the present large factory at Fifth and Oak streets is the result. - New Albany Weekly Tribune 02 Sep 1898
