John was the oldest of twelve children born to Thomas and Eliza (Moore) Miller. He married Margarett Lois Taylor in 1858 and they were the parents of nine children: Mary J., Benjamin T., Edwin, Netta S., Louella 'Lillie', Clara, Tillia, Charles T. and Elizabeth M., 'Lizzie'.

John Miller, son of Thomas and Eliza Miller, was born in Indiana, March 13, 1834 and departed this life February 10, 1921, aged 86 years, 11 months and 4 days. He was united in marriage of Margurette Taylor, April 28, 1858. Of this union 8 children were born. His wife preceded him in death, April 6, 1915. He leaves to mourn their loss, 4 daughters, 2 sons, 3 sisters, 24 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. D. Wells. Short services were held at the home, Sunday, February 13, at 9 o'clock. Services were conducted at Mt. Zion church by Rev. McKay. The body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery by the side of his wife, to await the coming of the Lord.
