"San Francisco, January 2 - Daniel Buck, well known in the mining circles, died yesterday.... came to this coast about 245 years ago. Soon afterward he engaged in mining in California and Arizona. Afterward he became secretary for mining companies, and was for several years the secretary of Peter J. Donahue, and managed his affairs during his absence in Europe."

"Daniel Buck, the mining secretary, .... died on Friday of pneumonia, after an illness of several weeks. He was bon in Hartford, Conn., February 26, 1814. He was a descendant from the original Pilgrim stock, for his ancestors landed from the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock, and the full record of the family is preserved in R.R. Himmes' catalogue of the "First Puritan Settlers." Mr. Buck was a gentleman of the old school and courteous and kind hearted, and his death is greatly regretted."

William Blankman has applied for letters on the estate of Daniel Buck, who died on the 1st, leaving an estate in this city valued at about $12,000 and consisting mainly of a check in the possession of Wells, Fargo Co.'s Express Company for $11,000. The testator left his property in trust to Dr. Blankman for his children."
Never did find anything about his funeral or burial though.
