Instructor in Latin, Greek, and German, Granville (NY ) Military Academy 1884-85 and mathematics Kenyon Grammar School, Gambier, Ohio, 1885-86; taught at Mount Pleasant Military Academy, Ossining, N.Y., 1886-87; studied in Leipzig, Germany, 1887-88 and Munich 1892-93; assistant Wyatt & Saarbach, industrial and analytical chemists, New York City, 1891-92; attended Johns Hopkins University 1889-91, 1893-95 (Ph.D. 1895) and Cornell Graduate School 1901-02; instructor in quantitative analysis Tufts College 1895-96, assistant professor of general and physical chemistry Hamilton College 1896-1900, professor of physics and chemistry Antioch College 1903-07, engaged in private scientific research in applied mathematics; retired about 1923 and had since devoted his time to the study of philosophy and the theory of music; author of many papers published in scientific journals; honorary member Phi Beta Kappa, member Old Stone Church (Presbyterian) and Calvary Presbyterian Church, Cleveland.

Married September 5, 1888, in Wooster, Ohio, Florence Evyline Johnson (Ph.B. Coll. of Wooster 1887, Ph.D. 1897), daughter of Isaac and Catherine (McClure) Johnson. No children. Mrs. Higbee died February 12, 1924.

Death due to bronchopneumonia. Buried in Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland.

Survived by a brother, William Tryon Higbee of Cleveland.
