Charles W. Adams, 93, a retired attorney, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arlington Funeral Home, and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at White Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, in Lubbock.

Charles was born Aug 10, 1910, in Dimmitt. He lived in Lubbock most of his life before moving to Arlington in 1979. He earned a BBA from Texas Tech in 1932 and a law degree from Texas Tech in 1970. He had a private law practice from 1970 to 1980. He was a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, American Bar Association, State Bar of Texas, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. He taught Texas land titles at Texas Tech School of Law in 1980 and 1981. He was a member of the board of Realtors, a member of Reese Air Force Base Commission, president of the Lions Club in Lubbock, and a member of the Panhandle South Plains Fair Board. He was partner, owner, and manager of Guarantee Abstract and Title Company in Lubbock from 1939 to 1979. He served on the board of directors of Texas Land Title Assoc., 1949-1951; president, Texas Land Title Assoc., 1952-1953; board of governors, American Land Title Assoc., 1956-1959; member, Planning Commission, City of Lubbock, 1953-1957 and chairman, 1955-1956; member, Select Committee of Texas Land Title Assoc. to work with the Insurance Commission of the State of Texas for revision of regulations, 1973-1974. He worked for North American Aviation, Grand Prairie, 1941-1945. He endowed the Glorietta Baptist Church, Glorietta, N.M. He was a member of Fielder Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed a long, healthy and fruitful life with many loves and hobbies. He was a Christian, loving father, hunter, hiker, angler, genealogist, scout, farmer, mountain man, archeologist, patriot, and Texan. He shot the largest elk taken in Wyoming in 1955. He loved the Llano Estacado and the mountains of Northern New Mexico. Above all, he loved life itself.

He was preceded in death by former wife, Nancy Collier Adams; wife, Juanez Jones Adams; and an adopted daughter, Laura Kay Wooten. Survivors include his sons, James Collier Adams of Lubbock, Charles Adams III of Lubbock, and Zane Adams of Arlington; daughters, Martha Lee McCaleb and Nancy Barnes, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, Larry Adams of Crested Butte, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
