Mrs Anna Berkey, wife of Aaron Berkey, one mile west of town, died last Thursday morning at the Elkhart general hospital, aged 61 years, 11 months and 5 days. She had suffered with sugar diabetes for a number of years and last Monday was taken to the Elkhart General hospital where her right eye was removed, because of an infection, and in an effort to save her life.

The daughter of Christian and Susanna Blocher, she was born Jan 19, 1870, on the old Blocher homestead, two miles north and one-half mile east of town in Olive township.

She was first married to John Moyer, who died in 1907. Two children were born to them, John, Jr, who died at the age of 7, and Ellis Moyer of Goshen formerly of Elkhart.

On April 15, 1912 she married Mr Berkey, who survives. There are, in addition to the previously mentioned son and husband, nine step-children: Mrs Calvin Newcomer of Arizona, Mrs Martin Lehman of New Paris, Mrs Jess Reed of Nappanee, Mrs George Newcomer of Oregon, Mrs Ray Leatherman of Wakarsua, Mrs Omer Overholser, Lusher avenue, Elkhart, Mrs. Early Burse of Chicago, and Mary and Walter Berkey at home. She also has two grandchildren, June and Virginia Moyer of Goshen; a sister Mrs Charles Witmer of Goshen; and two brothers, J M and Martin Blocher both of this place.

She confessed Christ as her Savior and was baptized in 1893. In 1910 she united with the Mennonite Brethren in Christ church in Wakarusa, and was a very faithful attendant and a devoted worshiper at the services. With Sister Berkey's home-going, the family loses a devoted wife and mother, and sister; the neighborhood a fine neighbor, the church a faithful witness to the work of God.
