Eva was the firstborn child of Clara Lowber and Joseph Allen Frear Sr., a farming family in Kent County, Delaware.

She married Joshua Wharton Wilson on October 17, 1914. They had two sons, Joseph Allen (b. 1918) and George Wharton (b. 1923).

The family resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during their marriage, where Wharton worked as a produce salesman. After Wharton died, Eva returned to live in Delaware.
