Marie A. Brown of Boulder died of natural causes on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002. She was 86. Born Nov. 28, 1915, in Oquawka, Ill., she was the daughter of Ralph H. Olson and Flora P. Peterson. She married Leonard F. Brown in 1937 in Kahokia, Mo. Mrs. Brown co-owned Brown's Grocery in Boulder for 35 years and worked at Frostline Kits for several years. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and watching Colorado's sports teams. According to her family, Mrs. Brown was a devoted bird-watcher and gardener, with a "passion for roses." She was a member of the American Legion and sat on the Unity Church board for six years. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Brown of Glendale, Ariz.; a grandson, Ralph L. Brown of Superior; two brothers, Ralph "Bunny" Olson and Nile Olson, both of Oquawka.; a sister, Kathleen "Sis" Cude of Buckingham, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Marion E. Olson, Gerald D. Olson, Cecil W. Olson and Hal D. Olson; and four sisters, Lena Olson, Edith A. Endicott, Bernadine Chapin and Madeline Malmen. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Boulder Valley Christian Church, 7100 South Boulder Road. She will be interred at Mountain View Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the Heart Association of Northern Colorado, 1280 S. Parker Road, Denver, CO 80231.
