"Mary Alice Evans Cowhick, daughter of Logan and Susan Evans, was born in Winchester, Ill., Jan. 22, 1862, and passed from this life Wednesday, Jan. 11, 1933, at her home in Winchester, aged 70 years, 11 months and 19 days. She was the youngest of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to David Cowhick, Dec. 7, 1876, Rev. J. H. Coats officiated.
To this union were born 14 children, six dying in infancy. She is survived by her seven sons, David Jr., Milton, George and Frank of this city, Berry of Tuscola, Ill., Fred of Detroit, Mich., Joe of Robinson, Ill. The latter six mentioned served their country in the late war; also one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Wells of Roodhouse, Ill. 12 grandchildren also survive her. Her husband preceded her in death April 30, 1932.
She was a member of the Christian church of this city and while not a regular attendant at church services, she has always remained loyal to her maker, a true wife, a wonderful mother and a friend and neighbor to all.
Funeral services were conducted from the Christian church, Friday afternoon, Jan. 13, 1933, at two o'clock, Rev. L. A. Crown officiating. A quartet, composed of Dr. B. F. Webster, H. B. Corrie, Rev. F. V. Wright and Dr. R. R. Jones sang "Face to Face" and "Sweet Peace." Miss Ethel McClure was accompanist.
The flowers were in charge of Mrs. W. J. Moore, Mrs. Chester Smithson, Mrs. Ferna Coultas and Mrs. Otie Scott. Interment was in the Winchester cemetery, the pall bearers being Otie Scott, Bluford McClure, Luther Carter, Alex Howard, Arley Shull and Guy Faul."
