Michael enlisted in the Marines 23 September 1965, at a recruiting office in Dallas, Texas.
After his arrival in Vietnam Michael was assigned to Fox Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Fox Company was providing security for a mine sweeping to team on Hwy QL-9 and 2 kilometers south southeast of Khe Sanh Base when the Marines were ambushed by an NVA Company of hostiles in fortified bunkers. Michael died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the head and body.
Survived by his mother, Laurice Duncan of Box 213, Quitman, Texas and his father, Finnie Burleson of Route #3, Lubbock, Texas.
