Kalle Wapola was born Kaarlo Antinp. Vapola in Pyhajoki, Finland. He married Anna Kristina Wirret on Dec 16, 1888. He traveled to the U.S, with Alexander Wirret departing from Finland on May 27, 1893 and arriving in the U.S. on June 12, 1893. He traveled to and lived in the U.S. under the surname Piukkala (sometimes spelled Biukkala). He died when he fell while snow skiing and his ski pole went through his throat killing him instantly.
