Oliver Wood Fowler, 97, of Tempe, Ariz., beloved patriarch and proud Democrat, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, in Tempe. He was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Anadarko, Okla.
Oliver Fowler received his Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Oklahoma. His global engineering projects while working with Brown & Root included being the head design engineer for the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System and the national pipeline for Turkey.
While living in Farmington, he worked for Amoco, El Paso Natural Gas Company, and served as an Officer on the Board of Directors of Young Drilling Company.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret; his son, John; and his daughter, Mary Margaret Fowler.
Survivors include his wife of forty years, Virginia Young Fowler; sister, Pat Fowler; brother, John Fowler and wife, Robin; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth "Betsy" Fowler Milhorn and Tim Milhorn; stepdaughter, Linda Young; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Roberta (Young) and Clifford Orbach. Grandchildren include Abner Fowler; Richard Fowler; Sesame Devine; Erica Eaves Deerinwater; David "C.D." Lauritsen; and Jeffrey Lauritsen. Great-grandchildren include, Brooke Fowler; Ellary Devine; Ryley and Cole Deerinwater and Dashiell "Dash" Lauritsen.
A longtime resident of Friendship Village in Tempe, he will be missed by many of the staff and his friends there.
In lieu of flowers, donations or services, Oliver requested that his family and friends celebrate his life and memory by having a good meal.
His remains reside at the Valley of the Sun in Chandler, Ariz.
