She was born February 28, 1929 in Plum City, WI, the daughter of Allen and Christine (Hei) Glaus. She married Marlyn Aitken January 29, 1951 in Eau Claire, WI. Marlyn was a police officer in Lake City and later a long time Deputy Sheriff in Wabasha County. The family moved to Wabasha in 1954. He died November 19, 1988. Elaine worked as a waitress at White Bridge on Lake Zumbro and at the Idle Hour Restaurant and Café 61 in Wabasha. She then worked at the Wabasha Egg Plant and the Winona Glove Co. in Wabasha. She then worked as head of housekeeping at the Anderson House in Wabasha for over 22 years. Elaine then worked in housekeeping at the AmericInn in Wabasha until retiring in 2006.
She enjoyed working puzzles and going to rummage sales in the area.
Elaine is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Joan Aitken, Wabasha, MN, Tim and Denise Aitken, Wabasha, MN, Don and Lisa Aitken, Lake City, MN, Jeff and Paula Aitken, Wabasha, MN; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Marie Glaus, Plum City, WI, Loren and Arlene Glaus, Plum City, WI, Gwelda Glaus, Durand, WI, Peg Glaus, Elmwood, WI, Mary Glaus, St. Paul, MN; sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Dennis Oberding, Baton Rouge, LA; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlyn, two infant daughters, four brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00am at the United Church of Christ in Wabasha with the Reverend James Clausen officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Casket bearers will be grandchildren: Charles, Michael, Christopher, Josh, Olivia and Katrina Aitken, Shelly Hoffman and Lisa Springer. Honorary bearers will be the balance of her grandchildren: Christy and Kimberlee Aitken and Aimee Meyer. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Thursday from 4-8pm and at the church on Friday one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to the United Church of Christ Youth Program and to St. Ann's Unit of St. Elizabeth's Health Care Center. The Abbott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
