Bess Swartz Bollenbach was born on Sept. 25, 1900 in Cottonwood County, Minn. to A.L. & Lizzie Swartz. She attended school in Cottonwood County. On July 6, 1924 she married Dick Bollenbach at Long Beach, Calif. Shortly thereafter they moved back to Oklahoma and made their home on the farm north of Loyal where Dick was born in 1893. Not long after, His Father staked a claim in the run of the Cheyenne Araphoe Territory. Bess will be remembered for her enthusiasm for living. She enjoyed the country and farm where she lived. When you visited her home, you became aware that she enjoyed raising flowers and peacocks. For her relaxation she spent hours playing on the organ and caring for Lady Bird. Her nieces and nephews looked forward to her letters or the day when Aunt Bess came to their house for a visit. Along with the joys and blessings, she also endured the heartache and disappointments of life. Her only child, a son, preceded her in death by drowning in the Cimmaron River in 1932. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by three sisters: Ethel Smith of Westbrook, Minn, Iris Johnson, Heron Lake, Minn., and Coral Rens of Waterloo, Iowa and one Brother, Clair Swartz of Jeffers, Minn.
