Funeral services for Walter M. Shirley, 84, of Samantha Rt. 1, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Camp Ground Methodist Church with the Rev. Lucius Clements officiating.
Mr. Shirley died Tuesday at Druid City Hospital. His was Tuscaloosa County's first death attributed to influenza.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maryland Shirley of Samantha Rt. 1: five sons, Howard Shirley of Little Rock, Ark., Glenn Shirley of Miami, Fla., William P. Shirley of California, S. T. Shirley of Tuscaloosa and Jack M. Shirley of Samantha; three daughters, Mrs. T. E. (Bertha) Jarvis of Miami, Mrs. Stanley (Mildred) Kjellberg of California and Mrs. W. F. (Clystra) McCollum of Samantha Rt. 1; three brothers, S. B. Shirley of Bellaire, Tex., J. S. Shirley of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Will Shirley of Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
