Edward was the son of Capt Charles Gobin(who served in the American Revolutionary) and his wife Ann Philips.
On April 17, 1806,Edward was married to Susannah Shoemaker, daughter of Henry Shoemaker(who served in the Revolutionary war) and Barbara Kepner. He was the father of Charles Gobin(1807-1890), Henry Shoemaker Gobin(1808-1884) Jacob Shoemaker Gobin(1810-1885), Samuel Shoemaker Gobin(1812-1883),Lewis Dewart Gobin(1814-1882)
Ann Gobin(1816-1856), Twins William(1818-1887) and Edward(1818-1819),Maria Gobin(1820) and Sarah(1823)
He was the grandfather of Civil War General JPS Gobin.

It is probable you have heard that the Yankees on Tioga shot Edward Gobin; this has put a stop to all business in that country & they since say he was the wrong person, they meant to shoot the Surveyor, Henry Donnell. There are forty men in arms on the Tioga, from Sugar Creek and other parts. Gillet, sometime after Gobin was shot, came with upwards of thirty persons on to the tract in the name of Maak Wilcocks, and cut the hay. The person it is leased to fears they will take his life, and for sometime has kept to his house. I am informed that at Tioga Point they have shot and burnt an effigy of Henry Donnell, and threatened that if he or any other officer should go into the county they should not leave it alive. They have stopped travellers and made them give an account of themselves. One of the settlers is now in Williamsport, who had leased a tract of land; he fled the country fearing his life would be taken, and numbers have under like apprehensions removed into the state of New York.

DISTILLERIES.......... In 1808 Edward Gobin had a distillery on Market street in Sunbury. A large frame distillery was erected at some time between 1835 and 1838 by Gideon Markle in Chestnut street between Fifth and Spring run; it was subsequently operated by John Robins, and then abandoned.
